About

Opened in 1996, the Molecular Medicine Centre was purpose-built to provide a first class research and training environment in clinically relevant, molecular biology and genetics research. In 2001, the research outputs were returned in the 5* rated Clinical and Hospital based subjects RAE Unit of assessment.

The Medical Genetics Section is headed by Professor David Porteous and is located within the Centre for Molecular Medicine (MMC) at the University of Edinburgh. It embraces all aspects of medical genetic research from single gene and developmental anomalies to common complex disease, using bioinformatic, statistical, quantitative and epidemiological genetics approaches combined with comparative genomics, cellular, developmental and molecular and cytogenetic methods.

The Medical Genetics section is one of 4 University Academic Research Sections and 1 NHS Service Section, which comprise the Centre for Molecular Medicine. Find out more on the Centre for Molecular Medicine page
